New year, new me?

People say that every time a new year begins, we have the opportunity to change something (or everything) about ourselves. While this is not what people would consider a new year, as we are closer to the end of the year and not the beginning, it is however the beginning of the school year and I think this also gives people the opportunity to change something about themselves, especially in the school area.

I finished my university degree in 2020, when everyone in the whole world was forced to stop whatever they were doing and had to stay at home. This meant that I had to spend the last months of my final year at university at home. That was definitely a time of change for everyone. The following months, when everyone started to adapt to what was called the "new normality", I graduated from university and started working as an English teacher. Talking about changes, I changed from being a student to being the teacher. I then worked as a teacher for the following two years, trying to discover who I wanted to be as a teacher, with its ups and downs, but it hasn't been until this year that I made another change but this time, it was the other way around: I went from being a student to being the teacher to being a student again.

I have just finished my second week at university and, while it's still early days, I am feeling happy and optimistic about this new experience. In my case, this change wasn't just going back to university with my previous friends or class mates. These past two weeks, for me, have meant moving back to Madrid, going back to being a student again, starting from zero in a new university and with new class mates. And while I thought it was going to be far more difficult, I'm quite happy with how everything has gone these weeks (fingers crossed I can still say that in July!). I think I am off to a good start, so let's see if this new year really leads to a new me.
